At Los Altos Youth Baseball and Softball of Long Beach, we pride ourselves in giving every player a positive experience and life lessons they will carry with them long after they have graduated. To us, the kids are #1, and that means providing an all-inclusive program they can participate in with friends and family, where the focus is on fun and equal opportunity for all players. Win or lose, good sportsmanship is what we emphasize. The friendships and fond memories that are built on these fields will last a lifetime for the entire family.

Online Registration Process

Before you begin the registration process, please be sure to read all of the important information contained on this page. You will need to know all of it in order to properly register and certify your child for participation in Los Altos Youth Baseball and Softball programs.

To register your child to participate in any season, you will scroll down to the bottom of this page and pick the "Softball" or "Baseball" category link to begin the registration process. Each category page has a separate registration page for each division. Select the link corresponding to the appropriate division for your child's age and ability on the desired category page.

When you select the "Register Now" button on the individual division pages, you will be prompted for a User ID and password. The first time you register, you must select a User ID and password of 6 characters or longer. Your entire family will use this same Account for registration of all players and volunteers. You can reenter this website at any time with this same User ID and password to volunteer in other capacities or register additional children. Once you have established an account, you may continue to use the same account season after season, but will be required to register each child for each season in which they participate. Once each child has been assigned to a team, your account will provide you access to your children's individual team pages as well, which contain contact and schedule information for the team.

If you have never registered online with us before, you will be prompted to first setup an online account when you register a child for one of our programs. Each family should establish a single online account, requiring a Username and password, no matter how many children are being registered. Each family account can have multiple members (i.e. child participants), guardians, and volunteers associated with it.

If you have previously established an online account with LAYBS, you may use the same account for every season you register any children to play with us. Anyone who registered for either 2008 season already has an account established for their family, even if they did not register online. When you register, you will be prompted for your Username and password if you are not already logged in.

To access an existing account, click on the "Your File" tab at the top of this screen, enter your Username and password, and you will gain full access to all of your account information, including each player's team page once teams have been assigned and the registration has been paid in full. You can pay any outstanding balances with your credit card from this page also.  Any checks that are written and are returned by our bank will be subject to a minimum $25 fee.  All registration fees must be paid before a player can be considered to be put on a team.  Any cancellations will result in a $10 fee.  It is the League's perogative to keep any portion or all of a registration fee if a player opts out of the season after the final player evaluation date.

If you don't know or can't remember your Username and/or password, click on one of the Email links at the bottom of this Registration website's Home page for one of the website Administrators to request your account information. Be sure to provide both your name and your registered child's name so we can look you up in the online database and provide the requested information.

Age Eligibility Determination Date

Beginning with the 2006 season, the cutoff dates for age eligibility determination for Baseball and Softball were modified. No longer will league age be determined by the child's age as of July 31. Baseball's age determination date for the 2006 season and beyond is now April 30 of that season, and Softball's is now December 31 of the year prior to Spring season. Our Fall Ball programs play under league age eligibility for the following Spring season. Click on the link below to access a league age calculator for the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 seasons.

Documentation for proof of age is required for all players in order to participate in our Baseball or Softball programs. Only an original Birth Certifcate or certified duplicate obtained via the County Hall of Records (no Xerox copies or Birth Abstracts) will be accepted for proof of age.

Participation Requirements

Los Altos Youth Baseball and Softball is purely a volunteer program, and as such all families are expected to participate. At a minimum, a member of each player's family is required to serve a single shift in the Snack Shack during the course of the Spring season. However, we encourage everyone to become more involved in our Los Altos "family" as a volunteer in some capacity, whether it be on the Board of Directors, on the field as a Manager or Coach, as a member of the Auxiliary that runs the Snack Shack, on the Maintenance crew to help maintain our fields as the finest in the area, or simply as a helper for one or more of the Special Events we hold throughout each season, such as the Pancake Breakfast, Picture Day, Sponsor Day, one of our fundraisers, etc.

When you register, you will be asked if you wish to volunteer, and you may do so at that time in one capacity. If you or another member of your family wishes to volunteer in any additional capacities, after completing your child's registration (and before logging out), proceed to the "Volunteer/Donate" tab to volunteer in as many additional capacities as you wish.

All Los Altos volunteers are required to submit to a background check of the Megan's Law sexual offender database. Anyone convicted of a sexual offense will not be allowed to volunteer in any Los Altos capacity. Click on the following link to download a copy of the volunteer application, fill out a copy for each volunteer, and turn it in with a copy of the volunteer's Driver's License at your first team meeting.

NO Residency Restrictions at LAYBS!

We at Los Altos have replaced our 51 year affiliation with Little League Inc. by an affiliation with the Cal Ripken division of Babe Ruth League Inc. and ASA Softball in order to better serve our Los Altos community. This change eliminates any boundary restriction on our registration and allows anyone interested in our programs and philosophy to sign up with us, regardless of where they live. As a result, our program is rapidly expanding while other area programs struggle.

Program Overview

We offer numerous Baseball and Softball programs for boys ages 4-12 and girls ages 5-14. No child that signs up with us, regardless of where they live, will be turned away. We have 5 beautiful fields including a brand new exclusive tee ball field, located in the middle of El Dorado Regional Park on the eastern edge of Long Beach. Two fields are dedicated for baseball with new grass infields, and two with dirt infields are used for softball and T-ball. All fields have lights, so with all of these fields to play on and the ability to play day or night games, our registration has never filled up.

New for 2007 Major Baseball: Leadoffs, Steals anytime, running on dropped 3rd strike! LAYBS has converted one of our fields to 70' bases and 50' pitcher's mound to adopt real baseball rules. We feel it will better prepare our older baseball players to play at the next level as 13 year olds, where they play with 90' bases by the same rules.

During regular Spring season, all divisions play games on Saturdays, and Monday through Thursday each week, all divisions except T-ball and Ponytail play one game. The season runs from mid-February through mid-June. There are no games on Fridays or Sundays for Spring season. Sign up before November 2nd and receive a $15 discount off the regular registration fee ($125 before Nov 2nd, $140 after Nov 2nd 2009).  If you miss that date, you may still sign up anytime through the end of January.

For Fall Ball, we play only on Sunday afternoons, with no practices at all, for 10 Sundays between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Our Fall Ball program is designed to give kids a chance to maintain baseball skills in a noncompetetive environment while still having their schedule free to participate in other youth sports programs or other activities of choice during the offseason. We do not keep scores or standings in any division, and we focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game and having fun. This is an ideal opportunity for kids to begin a transition to the next level of play to see if they are suited to play at that level during the following Spring season.

Our Fall Baseball and Softball programs are offered at the lowest price of any offseason baseball/softball sports program in the area at only $40 for the 10-game season. Each player will receive a uniform T-shirt that they get to keep at the end of the season. Fall Ball age eligibility is based on what the child's league age will be for the following Spring season. For example, age for Fall 2008 signups will be based on their age eligibility for Spring 2009.

For Spring seasons, all divisions above T-ball (Baseball) and Ponytail (Softball) select their teams through a draft process on the basis of player evaluations that take place on the last two Saturdays in January. By virtue of the draft process, LAYBS cannot guarantee that your child will be placed in the division you register them for. They will, however, be placed on a team in a division they are eligible for by age and appropriate for relative to their perceived abilitiy and that of the other players in their division. Sometimes the numbers of kids in each age group leads to a few kids potentially qualified to move up to the next level be kept down one more year in a division they were successful in the year before. The best way to prevent this from happening to your child is to volunteer to manage a team in the division your child is best suited for.

Fall Ball teams are also formulated by draft, but there are no evaluations conducted for Fall Ball. We do our best to honor special requets for Fall Ball, since scores and standings are not kept in any division and we want the kids to have fun learning and developing skills in a non-competetive environment. Keeping all kids enjoying their experience and getting opportunities to play new positions is the best way to keep them interested in the game and wanting to play in the more competetive Spring season.
